North Carolina School Report Card Welcome Letter

Dear Parents, Students, Faculty Members, and Community Members,

Welcome to the 2013-2014 North Carolina School Report Card for Willow Oak Montessori. The North Carolina School Report Card is one way for stakeholders and community members to learn more about our school and how it compares to other schools in the State.

Willow Oak Montessori strives to assist children in achieving their unique potential as responsible global citizens by nurturing self-confidence and independent decision making in a stimulating, creative, and diverse Montessori community. We opened our doors on August 26, 2013, initially serving students in grades 1 through 3, and will grow one grade level per school year thereafter until we are serving students through the 8th grade.

When reviewing the information contained in the School Report Card, please keep in mind that third grade students were the only Willow Oak Montessori students to take the End of Grade tests last school year, and that those students received three years of instruction in other settings before joining us. That is why our Board of Directors established a goal in our charter application to have 80% of our students proficient on End of Grade tests within three years.

Please also keep in mind that proficiency on End of Grade tests is only one measure of how any school is helping children grow. As a Montessori school, we are passionately committed to the development of the whole child, including growth in each child’s academic, social, and executive function skills. We are also passionate about respecting the unique growth trajectory that each child follows. I invite you to schedule a visit to our school to see firsthand what a Montessori education looks and feels like.

Please contact me directly to discuss any questions you might have about our school. Thank you for your continued support of our Montessori learning community!

Sincerely,

Peter J. Rubinas
Head of School
